Driving and Alzheimer’s Disease

One of the most difficult things I have to do as a geriatric care manager is to work with patients and families when it is time to give up driving. To most of my patients, driving allows them to remain independent. When they are told that they can no longer drive due to their advancing illness, they are simply devastated. Many became depressed and most fight it every step of the way.

One of our local University’s has started an Alzheimer’s drug study to help drivers with Alzheimer’s disease.
