Tuesday Tips for Caregiver – Using Positivity to be a Better Caregiver

For the family caregiver, one of the most important aspects of caregiving involves the caregiver’s attitude. Are you constantly moping around? Are you usually frustrated by your caregiving responsibilities? We want to let you know there’s a better way to go about the situation! By using positive thinking and things like affirmations and mantras, your caregiving can start to not feel so overwhelming.

Here are some tips:

  1. Start your day with a little prayer

Pray for strength and inspiration. Believe that you can be happy, even when times get a little rough.

2. Create a mantra for yourself

That little voice inside you head has a huge impact on how you live your life. Start feeding your mind some positive thoughts. You know you have the power to choose positive thoughts over negative ones, right? Every cell in your body responds to what your brain is thinking, so make sure it’s really what you want.

3. Get a some inspiration from friends

Friends have a way of finding your smile when you think that you’ve lost it. Spending time with great company can reset your well-being. They can allow you to escape caregiving for awhile and make you feel like a younger version of you. Pick up the phone and call a friend. Make plans to eat out, go see a movie or just laugh!

4. Meditate

Some people still don’t see the benefits of meditation, but the science is behind it. Meditation works to calm the busy mind. Once the mind is calm, the rest of the body can do the same. Then, you are more able to purposely choose the emotions you want to feel, like happy and joyous. Try it for yourself. Start with just 5 minutes of quiet meditation!
